Overview: Why We Use This Feature
Quantity Reservations work with Canix's production module to reserve inventory while performing production processes. This ensures that the correct available quantities are displayed throughout Canix in cannabis inventory, inventory availability and sales orders. This prevents inventory set aside for a specific batch from being sold or used in another production batch.
When inventory is added to a production run the quantity reserved for that run are removed from the usable quantity on the package in inventory. For example if 4,000 grams (the “Reserved Quantity”) out of a 10,000 gram package were added to a production run, then the package in inventory would only show 6,000 remaining grams (the “Usable Quantity”) that are usable for other purposes.
Glossary
- Reserved Quantity: If any amount of a package is allocated as a source to an unsubmitted production run, that amount will be shown in the Reserved Quantity. If an intermediary package was created from the source, this quantity will remain reserved until a compliance output package tag is created from the intermediary package. On the Packages Table this is the sum of reservations from production runs.
- Usable Quantity: The Package Quantity minus the Reserved Quantity. This is the quantity available to adjust, sell, use in other production or packaging activity, etc. An error will result when trying to take action on more quantity than available as Usable Quantity.
- Quantity: Active package quantity without reservations. This value aligns with your compliance system (BioTrack or Metrc).
- Source compliance package: A package selected as a source input in a production run, on which quantity is reserved.
- NCI product (Non-Cannabis Inventory): A non-cannabis product used as an input in a production run submitted for pending approval.

- Production: Edit access to Production Batches and Runs is required to reserve inventory on Production runs.

Reserve Quantity on a Production Run
As packages and non-cannabis inventory are selected as source inputs in a manufacturing run, the quantity assigned to the run is automatically reserved on the package/lot. This quantity is reserved until a compliance output package tag is submitted in the same run, at which point the quantities are deducted to create the output package. Remove Reservations from a Production Run
Before removing quantity reservations, confirm with your team that the quantities are not needed for the production run. Non-Cannabis Lots and Cannabis Packages follow the same steps to remove reservations.
- Find the Associated Runs: To find the runs where the quantity on a package/lot is reserved, select the package/lot tag to view details. Scroll to the bottom of the window to see the listed reservations.
- Navigate to the Run: select the link to the run in the “Reserved On” column to open the run. The package/lot is listed as an Input on the run.
- Remove the Package: select the ellipsis “...” on the top right of the package. Then “Remove Input”.
- Return to the Package Table: see the Reserved Quantity updated to 0 after removal.
Important Considerations
These "pro-tips" and warnings help avoid common pitfalls:
- Reservation Confirmations: Removing reservations effects or prevents existing runs from being submitted. Confirm with your team the reservation can be removed before finalizing.
- Clearing Production Runs: Keep in mind that adding quantities to production runs updates inventory availability throughout the product. If you are testing a run, or no longer intend to use it, delete it so that the quantity is returned to inventory.
- Usable Quantity Limits Actions: An error will result when trying to take action on more quantity than available as Usable Quantity.
- Edit Non-Cannabis Tables: If you do not have pending approvals enabled for manufacturing runs, use the columns bar on the non-cannabis products table to remove the Usable and Reserved quantity columns to make the table cleaner for your facility's data.
System Impacts & Dependencies
Available package quantities have been updated to include reservations from manufacturing runs. The following values have manufacturing reservations taken into account in the quantity available to take action on, and errors will be displayed when trying to use more than is usable on the package.

Troubleshooting Common Issues
If you encounter an error, check these common scenarios before contacting support.
- Error when acting on quantity (Sell / Adjust / Manufacturing / Packaging): An error will result when trying to take action on more quantity than available as Usable Quantity. Verify the Reserved Quantity on the package and confirm how much is committed to unsubmitted or pending-approval manufacturing runs.
- Reserved quantity won't clear: Quantity will remain reserved until a compliance output package tag is created. For cannabis reservations, quantity is only deducted once a compliance output package tag is submitted in the same run; for non-cannabis, it is deducted once the pending approval submission is Approved.
- Non-cannabis reservation columns appear unexpectedly: If you do not have pending approvals enabled for manufacturing runs, non-cannabis reservations do not apply to your facility. Use the columns bar on the non-cannabis products table to remove the Usable and Reserved quantity columns.
- To manually release a reservation: Follow the steps in this article to remove the input from the manufacturing run.
