Canix Mobile App Support will be Discontinued in January 2024
Starting in January 2024 the Canix engineering team will no longer support the Canix mobile app. The app will still be available for use, however bugs and technical issues will not be addressed. It’s important to transition to a supported solution before January 2024 to avoid potential issues completing compliance actions.
Why is this change being made?
We’re committed to providing best in class solutions for our customers. By focusing engineering resources on the web app, and working with our partners, Canix will be able to provide the best solution available for each aspect of your operation.
We understand this requires a change in workflow, which can be difficult. Your Customer Success Manager and the Canix team are here to support you during the transition. The rest of this document covers the alternatives available to the mobile app, the increased efficiencies you can expect from each, and any associated costs.

Internet Connection Available:
Consider these solutions if an internet connection is available across most of your facility.
Options | How it Works | Efficiency Gains | Est. Costs |
Scanning into Canix Web App on Tablet |
Connect a bluetooth barcode scanner to a tablet and enter that scanner in “carriage mode”. Use a holster and belt for the most mobility. Demo: Scanning into the Web |
Up to 3X faster than scanning on the mobile app. Mobile solution, easy to take actions on the go. |
~$75 bluetooth scanner ~$400 tablet ~$25 holster ~$25 belt |
Scanning into Canix Web App on Laptop w/ Cart |
Connect a bluetooth barcode scanner to your laptop and enter that scanner in “carriage mode”. Use a utility cart to move the setup around the facility. Demo: Scanning into the Web |
Up to 3X faster than scanning on the mobile app. Less mobile than tablet, but still allows for moving around the facility. |
~$75 bluetooth scanner ~$150 utility cart |
Take Actions Using Filters in Canix |
All compliance actions can be taken without scanning by filtering to specific tags, locations, strains, etc. on the plants table. |
This is a fast, no scanning way to complete compliance actions. It’s important to do this in combination with RFID audits to ensure plant counts are correct. |
Varies based on the application. |
Scanning into Canix Web App w/ Mobile Phone |
Use your phone as a barcode scanner with a 3rd party app such as Barcode to PC. This allows you to scan into the web app on a tablet or a laptop. Demo: Scanning into Canix from a Phone Barcode to PC is one example of an app that allows scanning from your phone into your laptop. |
Scanning via phones is inherently slower than a barcode scanner, but allows the flexibility to use hardware that you already have on hand. | $80-150 per month for Barcode scanner app. |
Internet Unavailable:
Consider these solutions for outdoor grows, and areas without an internet connection.
Options | How it Works | Efficiency Gains | Est. Costs |
Outlaw or StashStock |
Outlaw and StashStock provide portable RFID scanning devices for taking Metrc compliance actions with or without internet. Outlaw and StashStock send data to Metrc, and Canix automatically syncs that data. |
Supports offline mode with RFID scanning, but only supports Metrc package compliance actions. Canix only actions are not supported. |
Outlaw (contact for pricing) StashStock (contact for pricing) |
Scan into Excel/TXT and Copy Paste Tags to Canix | Scan into Excel or a TXT file to capture tags without internet connection. Complete compliance action by copy and pasting tags into the Canix web app and completing the compliance submission at a laptop. |
Scanning into Excel or a TXT file is fast and it’s easy to add additional information about what action should be taken with the tags. The additional step of Copy and Pasting tags into Canix will cause these actions |
No additional cost. |
Barcode Scanning App |
Collect lists of tags via a barcode scanning app like Barcode to PC or QR Code Scanner and then copy and paste these lists into Canix to take actions. Demo: Scanning into Canix from a Phone Barcode to PC is one example of an app that allows scanning from your phone into your laptop. |
Scanning is typically significantly slower from a phone’s camera. This is a good option if you need many scanning devices, and do not want the expenses of buying a large # of bluetooth scanners. |
Varies based on the application. |
RFID Harvesting
Options | How it Works | Efficiency Gains | Est. Costs |
WayFast |
WayFast provides scales that automatically collect the tag and weight as each plant is placed on the scale. Demo: WayFast to Canix |
By using RFID to capture plant tags WayFast saves a few seconds for every plant vs Canix Mobile App, and hours over the course of a large harvest. |
Contact for pricing. (WayFast and Canix are exploring options for an initial down payment and a monthly rate afterwards) |
Outlaw/StashStock |
Outlaw & StashStock both provide speed harvesting solutions that can connect your existing scales to RFID readers and auto collect the tag and weight for each plant. Demo: StashStock CannaScale Demo |
By using RFID to capture plant tags, a few seconds for every plant vs Canix Mobile App, and hours over the course of a large harvest. |
Outlaw (contact for pricing) StashStock (contact for pricing) |
Connecting Scales to Excel > Upload to Canix |
Connect your scales to your laptop and record weights in Excel. Scan to add tags and upload via the “Import Wayfast Harvest” action. |
This method is approximately the same speed as harvesting on the mobile app. | No additional costs. |
RFID Auditing
Options | How it Works | Efficiency Gains | Est. Costs |
Outlaw/StashStock [RECOMMENDED] |
Outlaw & StashStock provide RFID auditing features on their handheld devices that facilitate RFID audits. |
Fast and reliable way to audit the count of plants or packages in a location. |

Download Tags from Canix, Compare Tags in Excel |
Download the tags you wish to audit from Canix. Demo: RFID Auditing w/ Canix, RFID Scanner and a Spreadsheet |
Considerably faster than a barcode scan or manual audit. Some time required to compare data in Excel. |
No additional costs. |
