Update Strains on Plants or Plant Batches in Canix
Overview:
This article describes how to update the strain property on an existing Plant Batch or individual Plants in either a Metrc-enabled facility, and how this action syncs to Metrc to maintain compliance.
When this is useful:
You created a Plant Batch (or Plant) and initially selected an incorrect strain.
You later identify you need to change the strain to one of your approved list.
You operate in a state where Metrc integration is live and you want the change to propagate to Metrc without manual intervention.
How it works:
-
You retain existing workflows for:
Selecting strain at Plant creation (unchanged)
Selecting strain at Plant Batch creation (unchanged)
Strain selection while splitting Plant Batches (unchanged)
-
After a Plant Batch or Plant is created:
Navigate to Plants > Plant Batches (or Plants if you’re updating by individual Plant).
Select the relevant batch or plant record.
Choose Actions > Change Strain
Select the new strain (must be one of the active strains available in your account).
Confirm the change.
Once you submit the change, Canix will trigger a sync to Metrc via the Metrc API (for Metrc-integrated facilities) The strain value in Metrc will update accordingly.
To immediately reflect the change in Canix, use Admin > Refresh Metrc Data.
Important Notes & Compliance Tips:
Because this feature triggers a Metrc submission on Metrc-integrated facilities, ensure you have the correct strain selected: Metrc records reflect this value for compliance and traceability.
If you have filters or reports grouped by strain, expect those to update after the refresh.
FAQs:
Can I change strain for both the Plant Batch and individual Plants?
Yes — both levels support strain update for Metrc accounts. Will changing the strain affect downstream records (harvest, packages)?
It will update the parent record; any downstream relationships remain but will reflect the new strain where applicable. What if the strain I need is not available?
You must first ensure the strain exists in your account (via Admin > Strains). Use the “Add Strain” workflow if required, then proceed.
