Overview: Printing Labels Directly From Your Workflow
Objective: Print compliance labels for the packages, plants, or plant batches an action just created or changed, without leaving the screen you are already on.
Benefit: Removes the extra step of navigating to the quick-print screen and re-entering tags by hand. This speeds up labeling after common actions and reduces the risk of errors from manual tag entry.
Business Logic: Print-in-Workflow only offers labels for records that actually exist and reflect current data, so what you print never gets ahead of, or falls behind, what the system knows. New packages from a split or combine are offered because they have never been labeled. Phase and location changes are offered because the label's data, such as growth phase or room, just changed. Submissions pending approval are withheld because the record does not exist yet to label.
Glossary
Print-in-Workflow: The ability to print labels directly from the success message of a supported action, without navigating to the quick-print screen.
Quick-print dialog: The Canix label printing dialog. When opened through Print-in-Workflow, it arrives pre-filled with the relevant tags and quantities.
Prerequisites & Setup
Permissions: Print-in-Workflow respects Tags & Labels permissions. The Print Labels button appears only for users with Edit access to Labels.
| Permission Level | Can see Print Labels button | Can print |
|---|---|---|
| Edit | Yes | Yes |
| View | No | No |
| No Access | No | No |
Templates: Print-in-Workflow uses your existing label templates — it doesn't offer a way to create or edit them, so at least one template must already be configured before you use it. Template permissions have no effect here; only Labels permissions (above) determine access. If no templates exist yet, you'll need permission to edit templates yourself, or ask an admin who has that access to set one up.
Necessary Data: The packages, plants, or plant batches you want to act on must exist and be visible in the relevant table.

Step-by-Step Instructions
- Run any supported action as you normally would — for example, select one or more packages from the Inventory > Packages table and choose Actions > Split Package.
- When the action succeeds, look for the Print Labels button in the success message.
- Press Print Labels. The quick-print dialog opens already filled in with the tags the action just created or changed, in the correct quantity.
- Choose a label template.
- Download the PDF and confirm the tags match the records the action just touched.
If you don't need labels, skip the button — the workflow behaves exactly as it did before.

Important Considerations
Print before you navigate away. The print offer belongs to the screen that raised it. Moving to another screen clears the offer. If you miss it, you can still print from Tags & Labels > Create Labels."
BioTrack facilities and package flows. On BioTrack facilities, package actions (split and combine) do not show the print offer — BioTrack assigns the tags, so the tags Canix holds are not the ones that were created.
Submissions held for approval. If an action is held for admin approval, the print offer is withheld until the records actually exist. Once approved, you can print from Tags & Labels > Create Labels.
Edit access is required. Users with View or No Access to Labels will not see the Print Labels button. If you expect to see it and don't, check your Labels permission level in your permission group settings.
System Impacts & Dependencies
| Action Taken | Impacted Area | Description of Change |
|---|---|---|
| Completing a supported action | Success message | A Print Labels button appears for users with Edit access to Labels, pre-scoped to the records the action created or changed. |
| Pressing Print Labels | Quick-print dialog | The dialog opens pre-filled with the correct tags and quantity. |
| Navigating away from the screen | Print offer | The offer is cleared. Print from Tags & Labels > Create Labels instead. |
| User has View or No Access to Labels | Print Labels button | Button is hidden. The action itself is unaffected — only the print offer is suppressed. |
Troubleshooting Common Issues
No Print Labels button after a package split or combine: Check your facility type. On BioTrack facilities, package flows do not show the print offer (plant and plant batch flows do). Also confirm the action fully succeeded.
No Print Labels button after any action: Check your Labels permission level. Edit access is required for the button to appear.
The offer disappeared: You likely navigated away from the screen. The action has already been submitted — print from Tags & Labels > Create Labels instead.
