In this article, we'll cover the required steps you'll need to take in your Canix account to ensure your data is accurate and ready for upload through our Metrc Onboarding tool and you remain compliant.
Onboarding Process
- Order Plant and Package Tags in Metrc
- STOP! Do not enter any additional information into Metrc.
- To make this process as smooth as possible, the team at Canix has built a comprehensive Metrc Onboarding feature. This will allow Canix to upload your beginning inventory directly from Canix into Metrc, including Facility Data (Locations, Items, and Strains) and all active Plant Batches, Plants, and Packages inventory.
If you've already entered any data into your Metrc account, please contact Canix Support before beginning onboarding, as this will add additional steps to the process: help@canix.com
To avoid encountering errors during Integration Onboarding that will cause delays, you must follow the complete Auditing Checklist below to comb through your Canix inventory and confirm that everything is accurate and ready to be uploaded into Metrc.
Auditing Checklist
Plant Batches
Auditing your Plant Batches before onboarding ensures we are only sending current accurate data into Metrc, ensures all Active Plant Batches are present in your system for compliance, and ensures you don't waste Metrc tags by uploading old Plants that are no longer in your Facility.
From Plants > Plant Batches: Active, review Active Plant Batches, ensuring they are fully up to date
- Check total Plant counts in each Batch
- Scroll to the right and check total counts for Immature, Vegetative, and Flowering Plants in each Active Plant Batch to compare with your physical inventory
- Update Growth Phase
- Update Growth Phase as needed to reflect actual inventory by moving Immatures into Veg
- Destroy old, non-active Plant Batches
- Destroy any non-active Plant Batches so they aren't uploaded to Metrc
- Plant Batches move from Active to Inactive automatically once there are no active Plants left
- This can be done in bulk for Plant Batches containing only Immature Plants
- In the Plants section below, you'll need to destroy any non-active Veg or Flowering Plants
After reviewing Active Plant Batches, make sure to add in any missing Plant Batches now
- From Plant Batches: Active, click Actions > Create Batch > From Clone or Seed or From Mother to create missing Plant Batches. Once created, be sure to Update Growth Phase for any mature Plants
- Create Plant Batch from Clone or Seed
Plants
Review and destroy any old Plants that are no longer in your Facility to avoid wasting Metrc tags.
From Plants > Plants > View: Tracked Flowering or Tracked Vegetative
- Review all Active Plants, both Vegetative and Flowering, ensuring they are up to date
- Filter by Plant Batch or Strain if needed
- Destroy and Create Waste for any non-active Plants so they aren't uploaded to Metrc
- Bulk select Plants to be destroyed, then Actions > Destroy and Create Waste
- Destroy Plants
Harvests
Your Active Harvests cannot be uploaded to Metrc because Metrc has no history of their original Plant Batches, but your Packages will be uploaded. Package all remaining drying weight before upload.
- Package all sellable material from Active Harvests
- From Harvest > Overview > Active > select a Harvest > Actions > Create Packages
- Package the Total Wet Weight if needed, even if still drying, as you can adjust the Package weight later to account for moisture loss
- Create a Single Package from a Harvest
- Log missing Harvest Waste on any Harvests you need to
- Bulk select all Harvests which still need to have their Harvest Waste logged > Actions > Create Harvest Waste
- Create Harvest Waste
- Finish/deactivate all Active Harvests after Packaging
- Bulk select all Harvests that either have all waste logged and material packaged or are still drying and have had their Total Weight Weight Packaged > Actions > Finish Harvests
- Finish/Deactivate Harvests
Packages
Metrc only allows an external upload of 200 packages max.
- Bring your total Package count to 200 or less - (Metrc requires this for upload)
- Combine like Packages to bring your total to 200 or less (Metrc's max upload allowance)
- If you can’t combine them down to 200 packages, you’ll have to manually enter every Package directly into Metrc after integrating. If you choose to go this route, please alert Customer Support.
- Any Packages of Seeds must be count-based "Each" - (Metrc requires this for upload)
- Update any Active Packages of Seeds to use the Item Type "Seeds (count)" with Unit "Each" (do not use weight-based "Grams") and adjust Quantity/Weight to reflect the count.

- Adjust Packages as needed to correct any discrepancies you find
- Adjust Packages
- Combine Packages
- Finish/deactivate any Packages with 0 quantity - (Metrc requires this for upload)
- From Packages: Active > filter Quantity column for 0 > bulk select all Packages with 0 Quantity > Actions > Finish Packages
- Finish Packages
Sales Orders
Sales Orders will not be sent to Metrc as this is a Canix-only feature, but you'll need to review your Sales Orders to ensure none are missing Packages or Transfers that should have left your facility.
From Sales > Sales Orders: Active:
- Audit all Sales Orders for accuracy
- Ensure that each Line Item on your Sales Orders has the correct Package(s) attached
- Ensure that a Transfer is attached to each Order (to remove the Packages from Inventory)
- Archive any Sales Orders that have been completed
- Once all Sales Orders are complete, bulk check the boxes next to each 100% correct and completed Sales Order > Actions > Update Status > select Archived > Apply.
- They will now be viewable in Sales Orders > View: Archived
- Once all Sales Orders are complete, bulk check the boxes next to each 100% correct and completed Sales Order > Actions > Update Status > select Archived > Apply.
