We are currently serving hundreds of customers in Metrc states, who utilize Canix to do so much more than just compliance. Less than 1 month to go! Get started now to remain compliant.
- By May 26th, 2022, you must be finished uploading all active inventory into Metrc and finishing physically tagging all active Plants and Packages with your new Metrc tags.

If you've already entered any data into your Metrc account, please contact Canix Support before beginning onboarding, as this will add additional steps to the process: help@canix.com
#1. Audit Your Canix Inventory
From the Canix web app, under Admin > Metrc Onboarding we will guide you through a full walkthrough of our interactive checklist to complete the required Canix audit before onboarding. Please review everything to avoid errors during upload that may cause delays or discrepancies.

- The link above is only accessible for Canix users with partial or full Admin access.
- Audit your Canix Inventory Before Metrc Onboarding is a Help Center article that can be shared with non-Admins. It also covers the required steps you'll need to take in Canix to ensure your data is accurate and ready for upload through our Metrc Onboarding tool.
#2. Attend a Required Metrc Training
Per OMMA & Metrc requirements, training is required in order to gain access to Metrc. Metrc is providing free daily New Business Training Webinars for employees, managers, and owners.
- Each licensed facility is required to have an administrator in the Metrc system in order to complete credentialing. An administrator must be an owner or designated manager, and each Metrc administrator must take the new business training course at least once.
- All facility employees must be trained in the proper use of the statewide track and trace system. It is strongly recommended that each employee planning to operate in the Metrc system take the new business training course to ensure they know how to accurately utilize the system.
- Training the entire team on Metrc ensures you have multiple Metrc experts should anyone leave.

#3. Request Online Access for Metrc
After completing the required Metrc training above, your Metrc Administrator will need to request first-time credentialing to gain initial access to the Metrc system.
Request First-Time Online Access for Metrc
- Follow the official Metrc documentation on these steps linked above. See pages 3 & 4 to carefully follow the instructions provided. (Same dates are out of date, but instructions are valid)
- Once completing the steps and receiving an email response, you must log in to Metrc within 24 hours of when the link was sent.
#4. Order Plant Tags and Package Tags on Metrc
The only action you must take in Metrc before using our Canix to Metrc onboarding tool is to order plenty of Metrc Plant Tags and Package Tags.
- During Canix to Metrc onboarding, our tool will automatically assign your new Metrc tags to each Package and Vegetative/Flowering Plant. You will not be able to continue without tags.
- Order plenty of Plant Tags and Package Tags for all active inventory, and enough for the next few months at minimum, including any Plant Batches of Immatures you plan to update in the coming months. We recommend making a large initial order as these may take a few weeks to be processed and delivered.
- Metrc charges $0.45 per Plant Tag and $0.25 per Package Tag.
- Once you are on Metrc, you will be unable to make any updates to your data in Canix or Metrc if you run out of Plant or Package Tags and will no longer be in compliance. It is vital to always maintain an extra supply of tags to ensure your business remains operational and compliant.
#5. Receive Your Metrc Tags into Metrc
Once your new Metrc tags have been delivered to you, you will need to log into Metrc to log receipt of them in the Metrc system.
Order and Receive Metrc Tags
- You must have your Plant and Package Tags physically on hand when you are ready to onboard to Metrc.
#6. Ensure All Canix Users Have Their Own Login for Compliance
In order to be compliant with Metrc, every Metrc user must have their own login. As such, every employee who uses your Canix account must have their own unique Canix User login.
Use the Canix articles linked below to create a Canix User for each employee that uses Canix:
- Add a User
- User Permissions Groups
- Create/edit Permission Groups to control what access levels different employees have
After your Canix account is connected to Metrc, there will be more options to review, such as:
- Adding a unique Metrc API Key to each Canix User with permission to submit directly to Metrc
- Enabling "Requires Review On Submission" to allow Admins to review submissions first
