Selling clones is a great way to make additional money while growing cannabis in your facility. If you are selling clones for the first time, this is an easy-to-follow guide on how to create clone batches, package your plants, and create sales orders for selling clones.
Creating Strains for Clone Batches
Creating strains is a fundamental part of creating clones to sell. Without strains, there is no way to create clones.
To create a new strain navigate to Admin > Facility Data > Strains. We suggest using a very descriptive nomenclature such as Strain Name - Item Type (i.e. Blue Dream - Clone).
More information on creating Strains here.
How to Create Clones as an Item
Next, you will need to create a specific clone Item.
To create immature plant items, navigate to Admin > Facility Data > Items. Again, we suggest using a very descriptive nomenclature such as Strain Name - Item Type (i.e. Blue Dream - Clone).
Then choose which facility the Item will be located in (if you have multiple facilities).
Item Type:
- If your plants are being sold in soil, select the Item Type “Immature Plants”
- If you are selling cuttings, select the Item Type “Clone - Cutting”
In the Strain field, specify from which strain your clones are derived.
Lastly, the weight unit for clones must always be Each. This is because clones are quantity-based sales rather than weight-based sales.

Creating Clones in your Facility
There are a few different ways to enter your clones into your facility. You can track them by their mother or create a group of immature plants that you gathered from an outside source. We will start with how to identify mother plants and how to use them.
- A mother is a plant that is used to create cuttings. These cuttings can grow roots and become a plant.
Identify Mother Plants
To create a batch of clones from a mother plant, you must first identify the mothers in your facility.
Identifying Mothers and Creating a Batch of plants from a Mother | |
Metrc |
To create a batch of mothers, you will create a batch of plants from one strain that you intend to use as mother plants. The next important part of this process is to ensure that you leave the plants as immature plants in the batch to use those plants as mothers. There has to be at least one immature plant in a batch to create clones from that specific mother plant batch. This is why it is extremely important not to move the mother plants to Flowering. Leave them as immature plants until you can no longer wish to produce clones from those plants.
When creating the batch, be on the lookout for the Is Mother Plant Batch Option. This has to be selected to create a batch of plants that contain mothers. Another option to look for is the Toggle Mother option. This allows you to make any batch a mother as long the batch contains immature plants.

Non-Metrc (Standalone States) |
To create mother plants in your facility, you will first create your mother plants in a batch (from clone or seed). Once your mothers have started producing vegetation, you can move them to a Vegetative state.
When your plants are in a vegetative state, select the mother plants, and then on the Actions menu, select the option for Toggle to Mother.

Create Clones
After you've identified the mothers you will then create the clones you wish to sell. Depending on your state you will have one or two options for selling clones.
- Bulk Package Unrooted Cuttings
-
Package Unrooted Cuttings is used to create a package of cuttings from a Mother batch.
- This will not deduct from the total number in the source batch.
- It will result in a new Package of Clones.
-
- Bulk Package Plantings
-
Bulk Package Plantings is used when selling clones or transferring immature plants from a nursery license and you want to package those plants directly from a plant batch.
- This will deduct from the total number of plantings in the source batch.
- It will result in a new Package of Immature Plants.
