Configure items for better reporting data
Sub Types - More granular item categories
Standardize the type of inventory across multiple strains and item names using Sub Types. Sub Types, such as A Buds or 1G Cart vs 0.5G Cart, are used in all reporting to analyze production, sales and margins across all product lines of the same type.
To learn more about and configure sub types in Canix, follow these steps.
Brands
Brands improve reporting to filter inventory reports and schedule delivery to brand partners, or to analyze production or margins by Brand. Canix provides Brands support for states or items that do not have required Metrc Brands support.
To learn more about and configure Brands in Canix, follow these steps.
Accounting Inventory Type - Raw Materials, WIP, Finished Goods
Finance needs to track the value of inventory in each stage - Raw Material, WIP and Finished Goods. They also need to report on the cost that moves when packages are converted from items categorized as raw materials to work in progress to finished goods. Set the Accounting Inventory Type on items to make tracking this cost quick and easy for month-end reporting.
To configure Accounting Inventory Types in Canix, follow these steps to edit items.
Units & Case Counts
Configure Units for weight-based items to report on and sell inventory as it's physically packaged. Configure Cases to report on and sell inventory in pre-packaged case quantities.
See here to learn more about and configure Units and Cases in Canix.
Create Cannabis Packaged Inventory
Package from Harvest
Packaging from a harvest is the first packaging step post-harvest in cultivation facilities.
To package from harvest, follow these steps.
Convert inventory from one item to another item
Some examples of converting inventory include turning bulk harvested material into trimmed product, or biomass into extract.
Split Package when creating a new item from a single package - follow these steps.
Combine Packages when creating a new item from a combination of multiple packages - follow these steps.
Split a bulk package into smaller package quantities
Packaging smaller quantities occurs for sales purposes, creating testing packages, or trade samples, for example.
Split Package when creating from a single package of the same item - follow these steps.
Create packages to send for testing
Split the quantity for testing into a new package of the same item with the Testing Package setting configured.
For information on creating testing packages - follow these steps.
Create packages for trade samples (certain Metrc states only)
Certain Metrc states require trade samples. Split the quantity for trade samples into a new package of the same item with the Trade Sample setting configured.
For information on creating trade samples - follow these steps.
Manage Cannabis Packaged Inventory
Change Package Location
Inventory must be physically in the location that is set on the package in your compliance system. For facilities that do not have locations supported in Metrc (such as some Manufacturing facilities), locations are Canix-only to help manage inventory.
To learn more about package locations, follow these steps.
Adjust Package Quantities
Package quantities in your compliance system must match physical quantities for audit purposes. When these don't match, such as for waste or spoilage, adjust the package following these steps.
Change Package Item
A package's item can only be changed using the Change Package Item action within 24 hours of package creation, and with some restrictions as explained here.
If unable to change the package item due to one of the restrictions listed, you must split the package and move the entire quantity to the new package item. Follow these steps to split a package.
Update Availability Statuses
Manage package availability using package statuses. This controls whether a package is in quarantine and cannot be edited, whether it can be edited and managed but not sold, or whether it is available to sell or transfer.
Follow these steps to use your custom statuses, or our default statuses to indicate when inventory is ready for sale or transfer. A full guide on package statuses can be found here.
Finish Packages when 0 Quantity remains
Once all quantity from a package is used, the package needs to be marked as Finished. This can be done in packaging actions when depleting the whole package, like Split Packages, or as a separate action.
Follow these steps to finish packages. Mark a package finished by mistake? Reactivate it using these steps.
Manage packages in groups with Canix-only Lot IDs
Lot IDs are a free-form field to manage inventory, such as representing the batch or production lot, without affecting the test result lineage like the production batch field.
See here to learn more about Lot IDs and steps to use Lot IDs on packaged inventory.
Assign inventory to owners for easier package management
The Package Owner field associates a user to packages to easily filter for inventory they are managing. This does not restrict any other reports, unless filtered using this field.
See here to learn more about and to use Package Owners on inventory.

Movement of cost from Raw Materials to WIP to Finished Goods
